2024 Hospital AI Patient Survey Uncovers Overwhelming Patient Support for AI and Video-Assisted Care
First of Its Kind Survey Reveals Strong Support for AI & Video-Assisted Care
LookDeep Health, which develops computer vision and AI technology for hospital settings, commissioned a survey of over 500 prospective patients revealing patient attitudes toward AI integration in healthcare.
Key Findings
- 70% believe hospitals should use AI to monitor patient care
- 79% welcome AI for applications like Virtual Nursing and family collaboration features
- 79% identify understaffing as the primary cause of high hospital fall rates
- Less than 10% disagreed that AI or video monitoring would benefit patient care or family access
Patient Concerns About AI
Nearly eight in ten respondents expressed concern about “over-reliance by doctors and nurses.” The second-ranked worry was reduced clinician interaction, while data privacy concerns ranked third.
Expert Perspectives
CEO Narinder Singh noted that results “contradict commonly shared concerns about AI and video,” emphasizing that patients want enhanced attention during vulnerable hospital stays.
Nursing Director Tiffany Wyatt, RN, BSN, stressed that “AI and video in healthcare works best when it assists clinicians to connect more with patients rather than replacing them.”
Success Factors for AI Adoption
- Specificity matters: Clear, relevant applications resonate with patients
- Family connection: Technologies facilitating remote visits are highly valued
- Address staffing gaps: AI offers monitoring enhancement without eliminating human care elements
