aimee — Clinical AI, Grounded in the EHR

aimee is the first clinical AI assistant that can see, hear, and speak with patients under the direction of nurses and physicians. This page is the companion knowledge center for our Epic Showroom listing — explaining how aimee safely uses read-only EHR data to have real, grounded conversations at the bedside.

About the aimee Epic Listing

The aimee listing on the Epic Showroom is an educational resource for Epic customers evaluating clinical AI at the bedside. It describes how aimee integrates with Epic through read-only access — pulling the specific patient data needed to ground each conversation, without ever writing back to the chart.

This page goes deeper: it shows what aimee actually does with that data, walks through concrete examples, and lists the underlying APIs that power the integration.

Read-Only Epic Access, Grounded Conversations

aimee queries Epic in real time for the patient in front of her — her medications, schedule, care team, restrictions, and after-visit summary. That context is combined with what aimee sees and hears in the room, so every response is tied to what is actually happening with that specific patient.

Read-Only by Design

aimee never writes to the chart. She pulls only the data needed for the conversation at hand, using standards-based APIs.

Grounded in Real Context

Every answer aimee gives is tied to the actual patient record — not generic medical content and not a scripted flow.

Multimodal with Vision

aimee pairs EHR data with real-time computer vision, so she can act on what she sees in the room — not just what's typed or said.

Three Examples of aimee + Epic in Action

These are representative use cases of how aimee uses Epic data at the bedside. They are illustrative, not exhaustive — the full set of capabilities continues to grow as new Epic APIs become available.

1

Interactive After-Visit Summary

aimee reads the patient's After Visit Summary (AVS) directly from Epic and lets the patient ask questions about it conversationally. Instead of handing a patient a dense printout, aimee can walk them through their discharge instructions, medication changes, warning signs, and follow-up steps — in plain language, in their preferred language, and as many times as they need.

"What does this new medication do?" · "When do I follow up with cardiology?" · "What should I watch for tonight?"

2

Schedule, Care Team, and Orientation

Patients constantly wonder what is happening next and who is taking care of them. aimee answers those questions directly from Epic — today's procedures and tests, when meals arrive, who the attending and nurse on shift are, and what the plan for the day looks like. It keeps patients oriented and reduces call-light traffic for questions staff shouldn't have to answer in person.

"Who's my nurse today?" · "When is my MRI?" · "What time is breakfast?"

3

NPO Status + Vision — Catching a Tray Before It's Touched

This is where aimee's multimodal nature matters. aimee reads the patient's NPO status from Epic, and her vision AI watches the room. If a food tray shows up — from a family member or a tray delivered in error — aimee recognizes it, speaks up, and reminds the patient of their restriction before they eat. A case canceled because a patient broke NPO is an enormously expensive, entirely preventable event. aimee closes that gap in real time.

"I see a food tray — your chart shows you're NPO for tomorrow's procedure. Please don't eat or drink anything, and I'll let your nurse know."

These three examples are a small slice of what aimee can do with Epic data. The longer list of capabilities maps directly to the Epic APIs listed at the bottom of this page — and that list continues to grow.

Under the Direction of Clinicians

aimee always operates under the direction of nurses and physicians. She is fully governed through role-based permissions, with organization-wide and private prompt libraries so hospitals can tailor her behavior to their protocols, language preferences, and care philosophy. Administrators control who configures aimee, who manages interactions, and who reviews logs.

LookDeep Health is the only virtual care AI with peer-reviewed, published evidence for its vision AI capabilities, deployed across approximately 25 hospitals.

Epic APIs Used by aimee

aimee integrates with Epic through a read-only set of standards-based APIs. Each capability above maps to one or more of the APIs below. This list is kept in sync with the aimee Epic Showroom listing.

Shared Prerequisites

Foundational to every use case — aimee reads the current encounter, allergies, and code status (DNR/DNI/Full Code) to establish patient context and safety before any conversation begins.

1

Interactive After-Visit Summary

Reads the AVS document, active medication orders, and encounter diagnoses so aimee can walk patients through discharge instructions conversationally.

2

Schedule, Care Team & Orientation

Reads scheduled appointments, pending orders, assigned care team members, and nutrition orders so aimee can answer "what's next?" and "who's my nurse?"

3

Prevent Surgery Cancellation

Reads scheduled surgeries, NPO status, pre-op labs, surgical procedures, clinical notes, and lines/drains to catch cancellation risks before they escalate.

4

Hourly Rounding Support

Reads rounding flowsheets, isolation and infection flags, and activities of daily living to support the four P's — pain, position, potty, possessions.

5

Care Plan Execution

Reads inpatient care plans, clinical pathway goals, consult orders, nutrition orders, and care team assignments to keep PT/OT, diet, and pathway tasks on track.

6

Pain Management Support

Reads pain scores from vital sign flowsheets, active pain medication orders, dispense timing, and renal/liver labs to track pain trends and escalation windows.

7

Patient & Family Education

Reads education plans, education delivery records, new medication orders, and encounter diagnoses to detect education gaps and track what has been taught.

8

Clinical Task Execution

Reads episode checklist tasks from Epic's work list so virtual nurses can track and complete delegated clinical items.

9

Meal Support

Reads nutrition orders, food allergies, swallowing precautions, feeding assistance needs, medication timing, and nutritional lab markers to support safe meal delivery.

47 unique Epic FHIR R4 APIs across these 9 use cases — all read-only, all standards-based.
